PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James LaBrie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Everything in its right place. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James LaBrie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, James Penn!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LaBrie jabs Penn to the body, keeping him at a distance.
LaBrie takes a swing at Penn's ribcage but misses.
James Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
LaBrie scores with a nice strike.
Penn misses with a looping right.
LaBrie swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Penn to counter with a crisp jab.
LaBrie throws a nice looking combination but Penn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
LaBrie misses with an uppercut
and Penn connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
LaBrie defending well as Penn loads up on a big left hand.
Penn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Penn slips a straight right by LaBrie.
LaBrie sizes up Penn with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Penn rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and LaBrie makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Penn throws out a loose jab but LaBrie uses good head movement to avoid it.
Penn throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Penn lands a nice shot that snaps LaBrie's head back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
LaBrie throws a lazy uppercut
and Penn counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've been told by LaBrie's head coaches at Loucademia muito crazy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Penn throws a right and a left that both miss.
Penn dives in and grabs LaBrie's left leg, looking for a takedown. LaBrie pushes down on Penn's head and hops out.
LaBrie throws a jab but it's blocked by Penn.
Penn misses with a straight left.
Penn pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Penn throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Penn with a jab.
Penn missing with a left hand there. LaBrie was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
LaBrie keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Penn walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
James LaBrie is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Penn gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and LaBrie cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penn uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by LaBrie.
Penn connects with a nice looking jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Penn cracks LaBrie with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
LaBrie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
LaBrie lands an overhand right.
LaBrie misses with a body shot
and Penn counters with a straight right hand.
Penn waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract LaBrie.
LaBrie throws a series of punches but Penn moves out of range.
Penn throws an ugly left hook that misses
and LaBrie counters with a straight right hand.
LaBrie throws a body punch but Penn moves out of range.
LaBrie ducks right into an uppercut from Penn.
LaBrie moves away from the strike by Penn.
A jab from Penn misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
LaBrie misses the shot to the body.
LaBrie moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
LaBrie misses with a body shot.
Penn looks to land a body kick but LaBrie moved away.
Penn keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Penn appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
LaBrie on the wrong end of a nice hook.
LaBrie loads up on a big right hand but Penn slips the punch.
A looping hook to the body misses from LaBrie. Penn does a little dance to reset his feet.
Penn throws an off balance right hand
and LaBrie counters with a nice body shot.
A telegraphed right hand from Penn misses the target.
Decent striking displayed by Penn there.
LaBrie takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


LaBrie is rocked!
LaBrie walks straight into a right hand from Penn - that's dropped him! Penn jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save LaBrie from any more punishment! LaBrie complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). James Penn!
Our winner, James Penn, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
