PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gottlieb Hiebknecht (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks comes into the arena with 2nd Sucks - A Day To Remember blaring out of the sound system. Gottlieb Hiebknecht will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Calvin Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gottlieb Hiebknecht!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hiebknecht's waist but Hiebknecht gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brooks off to one side.
Hiebknecht drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Brooks defends it well.

Brooks shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brooks was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Brooks swings around for an armbar but Hiebknecht sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Brooks's guard.
Hiebknecht really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brooks pulls Hiebknecht in close to his closed guard and prevents Hiebknecht from doing any damage or advancing position.
Hiebknecht wants to control from the top but Brooks keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brooks controls Hiebknecht momentarily but Hiebknecht frees himself.
Hiebknecht trying to control but Brooks is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brooks lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brooks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Brooks trying to control but Hiebknecht is working from the bottom.

Hiebknecht had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brooks defends it easily.
Hiebknecht keeping moving, preventing Brooks from controlling successfully.
Brooks passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Brooks scoring with punches and elbows.

Brooks is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hiebknecht knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hiebknecht wants to control but Brooks postures up.
Hiebknecht is not content to let Brooks control the position.
Hiebknecht is trying to improve his position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Brooks working the ground and pound but Hiebknecht is defending the strikes.

Brooks tries for a kimura but Hiebknecht is defending well.

Brooks wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hiebknecht, who protects the arm well.
Brooks tries to score with some ground and pound. Hiebknecht controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Brooks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brooks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Brooks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Brooks cracks Hiebknecht with a big right hand but Hiebknecht just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Hiebknecht sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Brooks is trying to work for a kimura but Hiebknecht is defending well.
Brooks moves nicely into side control.
Brooks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hiebknecht keeps working.

Brooks advances to full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee warns Hiebknecht that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hiebknecht is trying to escape the mount.
Brooks landing strikes from the mount and Hiebknecht is in trouble!
Hiebknecht wants to control but Brooks is having none of it.
Hiebknecht in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Brooks landing strikes, looking to finish!
Brooks lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hiebknecht hang on?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hiebknecht tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Brooks throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Hiebknecht has his hands clasped together but Brooks breaks the hold and Hiebknecht is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Brooks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Calvin Brooks!
Calvin Brooks tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
