Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Scott Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mads Nielsen! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood slaps away a takedown attempt from Nielsen, before circling back to the center of the mat. Wood getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Mads Nielsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A nice combination there by Wood.
Wood keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Wood lunges at Nielsen with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Nielsen's hand. Nielsen buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Nielsen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Nielsen fails with a takedown attempt. Scott Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mads Nielsen. Wood scores with a jab. Wood connects with a single shot there. We've been told by Wood's head coaches at DiscoClub that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood scores with a nice strike.
Nielsen is rocked! Wood throws a pinpoint strike between Nielsen's hands that connects right on the jaw and sends Nielsen crashing to the floor! He's out before he even hits the mat and Wood scores a great knockout victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Scott Wood! After the fight, Scott Wood was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
