PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yong Rowe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Stafford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Andrew Stafford was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stafford lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

It looks like Yong Rowe has been cut.
Rowe shoots for a takedown but Stafford saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rowe closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stafford circles away.

Rowe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stafford to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rowe pushes Stafford off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Stafford is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rowe's half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rowe works his way to full guard. Good work.
Stafford throws an elbow that misses. Rowe uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Stafford's guard. Nice move by Rowe!

Rowe missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Stafford wants to stand up but Rowe is controlling him.

Stafford has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rowe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rowe throws a big right hand that misses.
Stafford is adopting a defensive guard.
Rowe postures up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rowe working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Stafford's head.
Stafford trying to keep a closed guard but Rowe is proving a slippery customer.
Rowe is working Stafford over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Rowe is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Stafford really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rowe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stafford has momentary wrist control but Rowe slips an elbow through the middle.
Rowe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Stafford looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rowe puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Stafford is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stafford trying to hold on to Rowe's head to control him but Rowe postures up.

Rowe is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Stafford regains full guard. Nicely done.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Stafford or perhaps it was just good defense by Rowe, which made it look bad.
Stafford fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stafford dives in and grabs Rowe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rowe pushes down on Stafford's head and hops out.
Yong Rowe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Stafford.

Rowe gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Stafford looks winded!

Rowe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Stafford has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Rowe to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Stafford is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Rowe pulls down on the head and he's put Stafford to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Yong Rowe!
