PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Blink Gee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Blink Gee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rafael Silva!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva moves into range and clinches up with Gee.
Silva is looking for a takedown.
Silva managing to block the knees to the body from Gee.
Silva is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gee pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Gee goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gee misses with an elbow over the top.
Gee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gee stalling in the clinch but Silva improves position.
Gee misses with a knee to the head.
Silva on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Gee lands an elbow just above Silva 's eye.
Gee throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Gee's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Silva manages to end up in side control.
Gee tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Silva moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gee is trying to get back to half guard.
Silva staying calm.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Silva scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well, if Silva is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gee makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gee.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gee has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Gee's legs - danger averted.

Silva feints and as Gee raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Gee is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Silva is aware though and is defending well.

Gee looking for a sweep. Not yet Gee, not yet.
Silva prevents Gee from getting back to his feet.
Silva's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gee will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Silva avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Gee gets caught napping as Silva dives in and scores a takedown. Gee manages to retain guard.

Gee is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Gee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Blink Gee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gee has closed the distance and engaged Silva in a clinch.
Gee pushes off an throws an elbow but Silva leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Silva is trying to trip Gee. He has hold of a leg but Gee is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Silva persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Silva sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gee's guard.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Silva wants to free his trapped foot but Gee is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Gee kicks Silva off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Silva shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gee napping and manages to drive through into side control!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Silva feints and as Gee raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gee working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gee is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Silva defends well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Silva changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gee looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Silva takes a little break here. Gee wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
