PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vadim Nazarov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Begbie Franco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nazarov comes to the cage accompanied by "Fade to Black" by Metallica. Franco has chosen Born Slippy as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vadim Nazarov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 19 - 1, fighting out of London, Begbie Franco!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franco digs a good hook to Nazarov's body.
Franco rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Nazarov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Nazarov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nazarov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Franco with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Nazarov is keen to just control but Franco is a slippery customer.
Franco regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Nazarov.
Franco is adopting a defensive guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nazarov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Franco wants to stand but Nazarov is controlling the position.

Nazarov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Franco swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Franco wants to get back to his feet but Nazarov is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Nazarov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Franco is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Franco wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Nazarov manages to pass to side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nazarov missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Nazarov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Franco's head.
Franco regains full guard. Nicely done.
Nazarov throwing strikes from guard but Franco blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nazarov takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Franco swings for the body but Nazarov moves out of range.
Nazarov feinted with a counter takedown.
Nazarov misses with a straight left.
Franco has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Nazarov is landing a low percentage of strikes.

and Franco counters with a nice uppercut.

and Franco counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nazarov cracks Franco with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Franco cracks Nazarov with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

and Franco counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Nazarov scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Franco connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Vadim Nazarov has been cut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
That kick from Franco tenderised Nazarov's leg. Nazarov is trying to keep his angry face on.
Franco on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Nazarov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Franco.
Nazarov misses with the combination.
Nazarov dives in for a single leg takedown but Franco sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Franco throws a lazy right hand but Nazarov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Nazarov has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Franco.
Nazarov fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Franco on the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Begbie Franco will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nazarov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Franco cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Franco's jab looks to have found its range, popping Nazarov under the eye.
Nazarov connects with a body shot.
Begbie Franco seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Franco throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Franco lands a nice hook to Nazarov's body. Nazarov takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Begbie Franco is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Nazarov walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Franco is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nazarov takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Nazarov slips under a jab from Franco.
Franco avoids the body shot from Nazarov.
Nazarov throws a lazy uppercut
and Franco counters with a nice leg kick.

Franco fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Franco has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Franco lands with a good body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nazarov drops his hands momentarily and Franco takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Nazarov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Franco as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vadim Nazarov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Franco counters with a nice low kick that buckles Nazarov's knee momentarily.
Franco closes the distance looking to clinch

and Nazarov counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Franco!

Franco tries to buck Nazarov off but Nazarov is having none of it.

Franco manages to get back to half guard.

Nazarov thows a huge punch but Franco dodges it nicely.

Franco is pulling down on Nazarov's head to control his posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Franco is on top in guard.


Franco gets to his feet - Nazarov follows without any prompting.

Nice defenses there by Franco.
Franco feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Nazarov's calf.
Franco lunges at Nazarov with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Nazarov's hand.
Good leg kick by Franco there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Franco throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Nazarov on the side of the head.
A decent looking cross lands there for Franco.
Nazarov has been working on his balance at Den of Tears (22 coaches, $800 fee), so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Franco.

That's time! Nazarov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Nazarov shoots in but no luck this time.

Nazarov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Franco digs a right hand into Nazarov's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Nazarov's gas tank.

Nazarov misses with a hook to the ribs.
Nazarov is trying to break free.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Franco lands a right hook to the body.

Franco scores with a crisp jab that stopped Nazarov in his tracks.
Franco seems to be stalking Nazarov here. He circles momentarily and then unleashes a devastatic head kick! Nazarov drops like a stone, out cold! WOW! Are you kidding me!? What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Begbie Franco!
Our winner, Begbie Franco, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
