Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gary Weir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kern Dignity! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Anthony Taglia and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dignity takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Weir ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dignity moves away. Weir goes for a double leg but Dignity avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dignity continues to drive forward. Weir throws an overhand right that lands on Dignity's shoulder, as Dignity tries to avoid the shot. Weir scores with a decent looking hook. Dignity slaps away a takedown attempt from Weir, before circling back to the center of the mat. Dignity keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And Dignity tries to counter it with a takedown but Weir pushes his down on his head and steps out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Weir shoots for a takedown but Dignity saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gary Weir. That's going to take a lot out of him. Weir jabbing away but nothing is landing. Gary Weir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Weir has his takedown stuffed and Dignity counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Weir is lucky that one didn't land flush.
That's one minute gone in the round. Weir shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dignity sprawls well. Dignity wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Weir gets slowly back to his feet. Dignity with the counter takedown but Weir avoids it easily. Weir goes for a double leg but Dignity avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dignity continues to drive forward. Dignity raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Dignity defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Weir. Weir is breathing heavily. Weir fails with the takedown. Weir darts in looking for a takedown but Dignity gets double underhooks and turns Weir into the cage. Weir tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dignity swivels and escapes. A little jabbing left from Dignity on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Weir throws a poor cross that misses
and Dignity counters with a head kick that drops Weir!
Weir is rocked! Dignity arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Weir's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Kern Dignity!
