PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Boris Britva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kela Molotok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kela Molotok will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Britva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kela Molotok!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Molotok feints and as Britva raises his hands in defense, Molotok changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Molotok content to stall in guard here.
Molotok stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Britva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Molotok told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Britva looking for a guillotine here but Molotok defends easily.
Molotok trying to control but Britva is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Britva is pulling down on Molotok's head to control his posture.
Molotok trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Britva has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Molotok avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Britva is on top in guard.

Molotok is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Britva is controlling him.
Britva's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Molotok working a defensive guard but Britva passes into half guard.
Britva keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Molotok is in trouble now - Britva has advanced to mount!

Britva controlling the pace for now.
Britva seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Molotok for as long as he can get away with.
Molotok is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Britva has hold of Molotok's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Molotok manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Molotok wants to hold on but Britva pushes him away.
Molotok is wriggling around trying to escape.
Molotok sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Britva is controlling the pace.

Britva working over Molotok with some ground and pound. Molotok looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Britva takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Britva moves nicely into side control.
Britva trying to control the action but Molotok is working from the bottom.
Molotok is letting Britva control him for a moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Molotok is trying to control Britva's posture but Britva avoids it.
Molotok tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Britva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Molotok manages to get back to half guard.

Britva is looking for a kimura here.
Still in half guard, Britva seems content to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Britva gets the takedown into side control.
Britva slows the pace down.
Britva wants to control but Molotok is keeping him busy.
Britva staying calm.
Molotok sneaks back into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Molotok wants to get back to full guard.
Britva is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Molotok can do to turn this around?

Britva wants to take a breather but Molotok is having none of it.
Britva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Britva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Molotok is looking to control Britva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Molotok avoid being mounted?

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Britva fails with the takedown.
Britva swings for the body but Molotok moves out of range.
Boris Britva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Britva shoots in looking for a takedown but Molotok manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Britva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
As Britva backs off Molotok throws a huge counter combo but Britva manages to avoid it all.
Britva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Molotok's waist but Molotok gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Britva off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boris Britva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Britva gets caught flat footed, as Molotok shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Britva is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Molotok stops Britva from standing up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Britva seems keen to control Molotok's posture.
Britva is trying to keep Molotok in close.
Britva can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Molotok controls the pace.

Britva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Molotok gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Molotok tries to free his leg and advance position but Britva is retaining full guard.
Britva has a closed guard, preventing Molotok from standing up.
Molotok stays in close to Britva's body and controls the position.
Molotok postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Britva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boris Britva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Britva wants to stand but Molotok is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Molotok lands a slapping body shot.
Molotok doesn't manage to clinch there - Britva circles away.

Britva drives through with a takedown into Molotok's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Britva stays in close to Molotok's body and controls the position.
Britva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A close second round but Kela Molotok will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Britva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Britva works his foot free and advances to mount.
Britva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Britva is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Molotok to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Molotok shrugs it off.
Britva wants to control the pace but Molotok is squirming around nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Molotok keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You get the feeling that Molotok really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Britva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Molotok in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Britva controlling from the full mount.
Britva prevents Molotok from getting the reversal.

Britva goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Molotok turns into him and now he's in Britva's guard.

Britva has his hands on Molotok's head, controlling the position.

Molotok stands up and waves to Britva to follow him.

Britva shoots for a double leg takedown but Molotok sprawls well. He's pushed Britva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Molotok tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Britva paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Molotok changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Britva looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Britva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Britva is trying to control. Molotok wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Britva is working for an americana but Molotok has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Britva was thinking about the submission.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Britva's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Molotok pulls Britva in close to his closed guard and prevents Britva from doing any damage or advancing position.
Molotok looking to control.
Britva controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Britva pushes down on Molotok's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Molotok is looking to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Boris Britva showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Britva has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A determined Boris Britva didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
