Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Travis Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fedor Khalidov! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood throws a big shot that misses. Wood misses with a straight left. Khalidov ducks under a wild hook from Wood. Wood dodges the punch combination from Khalidov.
Wood shoots in for a double leg but Khalidov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Khalidov misses with a straight right. Travis Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wood takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Wood tries a low kick but Khalidov avoids it. Khalidov defending well as Wood loads up on a big left hand. Wood closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Khalidov is trying to control Wood's posture but Wood avoids it. Khalidov is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Khalidov prevents Wood from moving into mount. Khalidov is trying to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Khalidov gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Khalidov won't allow Wood to pass to mount. Wood not landing any meaningful shots this time. Khalidov is looking to improve his position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Wood falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Khalidov to counter with a crisp jab. Wood attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Wood misses with a hook. Khalidov ducked under it nicely. Wood tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Khalidov was well out of range. Poor timing from Wood. Wood throws a hook to the side of Khalidov's head but Khalidov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Wood throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Khalidov counters with a stiff right hand. Khalidov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wood moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Wood takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
It looks like Travis Wood has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Khalidov falls off balance throwing a combination
and Wood counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Fedor Khalidov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Wood misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Khalidov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wood moves away. Khalidov avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Wood misses with a looping left. Khalidov connects with a looping right hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Khalidov tests Wood's chin there with a solid looking shot. Khalidov lands a body shot.
Wood is breathing heavily. Wood throws a shot from downtown. Khalidov moves away and avoids it. Khalidov scores with a hook to the body. Wood takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Khalidov drops Wood with a left and a right! Oh, Wood is hurt - Khalidov dives into side control looking to finish!
Wood is rocked! Khalidov advances nicely into full mount. Oh Wood is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Khalidov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Wood seems to have got his legs back now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood can't escape the position.
Khalidov controlling the pace for now. Khalidov get's back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Nice shot by Khalidov. Wood swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Khalidov counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Wood shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khalidov pinned against the cage. Khalidov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Travis Wood. That's going to take a lot out of him. Khalidov throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Wood on the side of the head. Khalidov looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Khalidov throws a series of punches but Wood avoids them all with ease. Khalidov connects with the punch. Wood swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Wood misses with a straight left. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wood seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Khalidov shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Wood is backing up but Khalidov catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Wood covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Khalidov Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fedor Khalidov!
