Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Birchall! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Murray Bookchin! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Birchall misses with a jab, cross combination.
Bookchin scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Bookchin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Birchall. Bookchin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bookchin looks like he wants to counter punch here. A right-left combo lands from Bookchin. Bookchin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Birchall moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Birchall misses with a body punch
and Bookchin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Birchall swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Birchall misses with a two punch combination.
Bookchin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Birchall is trying to break free. Bookchin jumps guard and drags Birchall to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Bookchin has a closed guard, preventing Birchall from standing up. Bookchin looking for a guillotine here but Birchall defends easily.
Birchall has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bookchin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Birchall defends it easily. Bookchin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Birchall doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Birchall manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Bookchin working a defensive guard here.
Bookchin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bookchin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Birchall gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bookchin has a closed guard, preventing Birchall from standing up. Bookchin has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Birchall doesn't defend quickly enough and Bookchin has managed to lock this one up! Can Birchall escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Bookchin on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Murray Bookchin! Murray Bookchin decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
