Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Han Solo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Han Solo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Han Solo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chad Shaw!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Solo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Shaw fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Solo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Shaw counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Solo makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Shaw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shaw moves out of range as Solo throws a body kick.

Shaw takes the fight into the clinch.

Shaw manages to break the clinch.

Shaw closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Solo to the mat! Solo manages to get full guard.
Shaw wants to get up but he can't break Solo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Solo is edging up against the ropes. He's using the ropes to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Solo is trying to drag Shaw to the mat but Shaw just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
Shaw throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Solo blocks it with crossed arms.

Shaw gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Solo tries to kick Shaw off but Shaw keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Solo trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Solo is breathing heavily.
Shaw sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Solo defending well though.
Solo pushes Shaw off looking to stand but Shaw dives back in and keeps control.
Shaw lands with a punch from half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Shaw wants to lay and pray for a moment but Solo keeps working.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Solo is working an open guard so Shaw takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Shaw slips a jab and a cross from Solo.

Shaw rushes Solo and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Shaw lands an elbow inside that Solo shrugs off.

Shaw escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Shaw is pushing Solo up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Shaw misses with a body punch.

Shaw works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Solo wriggles free and stands up.
Solo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Shaw closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shaw lands in his opponent's guard.

Solo uses the ropes to get back to his feet.
A jab from Shaw misses.
Solo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Solo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shaw.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shaw shoots in and bounces Solo off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Shaw must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shaw postures up in Solo's guard and throws a big left but Solo blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


No joy there for Solo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Shaw drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Shaw is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Solo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Chad Shaw has got the better of the ground game so far.
Solo is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shaw asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shaw has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Solo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Solo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Shaw pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Shaw breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shaw should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Han Solo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Solo throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shaw.

Solo manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Shaw is trying to trip Solo. He has hold of a leg but Solo is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Shaw persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shaw moves out of range of the body kick from Solo.

Shaw rushes Solo and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Shaw lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Solo takes an elbow to the forehead.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Shaw.
Shaw crunches a lovely knee into Solo's ribcage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Shaw has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Solo is trying to keep an underhook but Shaw manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Shaw thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Solo's head.

Solo throws a right and a left that Shaw avoids nicely.

Solo wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Chad Shaw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shaw accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Solo wants to get back to his feet but Shaw is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shaw bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Shaw passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Solo!
Solo is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Shaw looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Shaw is working for a guillotine from mount but Solo frees his head quite easily.

Solo is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Solo is squirming around, avoiding Shaw's attempts to control the action.

Solo pushes Shaw away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Shaw gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Shaw creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Solo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Shaw looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Shaw has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Shaw throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Chad Shaw is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Shaw wants to lay and pray for a moment but Solo keeps working.

Solo throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Chad Shaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Shaw has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
