Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phill Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Phill Brooks has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Phill Brooks seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andy Askren!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Askren moves into the clinch successfully.

Askren wants the takedown. Brooks is fighting it off but Askren persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brooks's guard against the cage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Askren postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Askren stopping the sweep attempt from Brooks.
Brooks wants to stand but Askren is controlling the position.

Brooks looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Askren pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brooks is keeping the position for now.
Askren postures up.
Askren really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brooks had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Askren defends it easily.
Brooks keeping moving, preventing Askren from controlling successfully.
Brooks controls Askren momentarily but Askren frees himself.
Askren wants to stand but Brooks is controlling his posture from full guard.
Brooks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Brooks is looking for a triangle but Askren pushes his legs off easily.

Askren wanted to stand there but Brooks had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Askren trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brooks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Askren would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Askren trying to control the position from guard on top but Brooks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Brooks is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Askren throws the left hand but Brooks avoids the punch easily.

Askren gets caught flat footed, as Brooks shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Brooks won't allow Askren to sweep him here.
Brooks controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Askren can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brooks is pushing down on Askren's leg trying to pass to half guard. Askren is fighting to maintain full guard but Brooks has managed to sneak the leg through.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Askren is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Askren looks like he's trying to stand up.

Brooks prevents Askren from improving his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Phill Brooks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Askren blocks a head kick by Brooks.

Askren bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Brooks is looking to regain half guard here but Askren keeps moving and retains side control.
Askren wants to stand but Brooks has his arm trapped.
Brooks wants to control but Askren postures up.
Brooks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Askren can do to turn this around?

Askren wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brooks keeps working.
Askren looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Brooks is avoiding damage well.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Askren tries to move to mount but Brooks blocks the move with his legs.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Askren looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Askren trying to control the position from guard on top but Brooks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Askren with a flurry of punches that miss.

Askren has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Brooks to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Askren is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Brooks pulls down on the head and he's put Askren to sleep! This one is all over!
