Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Merridew! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Meyers! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merridew throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Meyers feints the counter takedown. Meyers moves into the clinch successfully.
Merridew escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Meyers dives in for a single leg takedown but Merridew sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Merridew fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Meyers steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Merridew. Meyers goes for a double leg but Merridew avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Merridew continues to drive forward. A jab from Merridew finds it's way through Meyers's defenses.
It looks like Charlie Meyers has been cut. Merridew scores with a hook. Merridew throws a body punch but Meyers moves out of range. The fight stays on the outside here - Meyers looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Meyers lands a jab to the head.
Meyers closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Merridew is staying active underneath Meyers, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Merridew controlling the position well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merridew wants to control but Meyers is keeping busy and won't allow it. Meyers drops an elbow to the side of Merridew's head. Meyers is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Meyers is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Merridew defends it well. Meyers has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Merridew defend it? Meyers steps over the head and cranks it - Merridew is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Meyers!
