Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
43 - 46 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steve Rogers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Logan Harris! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rogers swats away the attempt to clinch by Harris. Rogers went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Harris looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Harris dodges the punch combination from Rogers.
Steve Rogers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rogers throws a sloppy head kick and Harris moves out of range easily. Rogers throws a leg kick but Harris checks it. No luck with that takedown attempt from Rogers. Rogers takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Rogers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Harris looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Rogers decides to stand back up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Harris tries to clinch but Rogers is having none of it. Rogers takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Rogers tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A countering left hand to the body from Harris misses. Rogers fails with the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers swats away the attempt to clinch by Harris. Rogers seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Rogers shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Harris manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Rogers content to stall in guard here. Rogers trying to control but Harris is working from the bottom. Rogers controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Rogers is looking to work some ground and pound but Harris has wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Harris being controlled here, momentarily. Rogers is looking to work some ground and pound but Harris has wrist control. Rogers postures up in Harris's guard and throws a big left but Harris blocks it. Rogers throws a big right hand that misses. Rogers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rogers wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving. Rogers chips away with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rogers sitting in guard, not really doing much. Harris really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rogers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rogers throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Harris on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Rogers cracks Harris with an open hand slap. Rogers throws a body punch but Harris moves out of range. Rogers buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Rogers, as that shot connected.
Harris is rocked! Rogers gets the takedown into side control. Harris is still in real trouble! Can Rogers finish him? Rogers in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Rogers tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rogers has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Rogers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Rogers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Rogers stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rogers cracks Harris with a left hook right on the temple and Harris goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Rogers lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Harris is OK!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Steve Rogers! A relieved looking Steve Rogers thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
