Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lanny Gardner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Van Houten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lanny Gardner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Van Houten!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Houten shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gardner but Gardner pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gardner avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Gardner darts in and clinches Van Houten up against the cage.
Van Houten drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gardner pulls his leg out and moves away.

Gardner takes the fight into the clinch.
Van Houten on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Van Houten is looking for a takedown.
Lanny Gardner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charlie Van Houten.
Van Houten goes for a takedown attempt but Gardner pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gardner catches Van Houten with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Van Houten shoots for a double leg takedown but Gardner sprawls well. He's pushed Van Houten's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gardner gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Gardner.

Gardner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Gardner counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Van Houten thinking.
Sloppy strikes from Van Houten. Those never looked like landing.
It looked like Gardner was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Gardner darts in and clinches Van Houten up against the cage.

Gardner has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Van Houten regains guard immediately.
Gardner stands up over Van Houten, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Gardner lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Gardner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gardner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gardner is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Gardner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gardner lands a couple of digs.
Gardner's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gardner throws a strike but Van Houten rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Gardner lands a decent punch to the body there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gardner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Van Houten can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gardner thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Gardner lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Van Houten is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gardner dives into side control.
Van Houten isn't going anywhere.

Gardner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gardner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Van Houten is wriggling around trying to escape but Gardner has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! Van Houten taps out and Gardner picks up the big win! Great work there by Gardner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Lanny Gardner!
