3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Massey! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A leg kick checked by Smiles. Massey tries to keep at a distance but Smiles has taken the fight into the clinch. Smiles misses with a knee to the head. Smiles is looking to control Massey's arms but Massey gets an underhook and turns him. Now Smiles has his back to the cage. Smiles crunches a lovely knee into Massey's ribcage. I was talking to Smiles's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Smiles avoiding damage.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Smiles. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Massey tries to work over Smiles's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Massey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Smiles has Massey up against the cage in a clinch.

Massey misses with the head strike.
Massey blocks a body shot from Smiles. Smiles using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Massey has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Massey lands a body punch. Massey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Smiles moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Smiles avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smiles moves into range and clinches up with Massey. Massey effectively controlling the action here. Massey misses with a punch to the body.
Massey lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Smiles scores with a knee to the head.
Massey lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Big J Smiles dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Massey lands a hook that snaps the head of Smiles backwards. Massey tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Smiles's elbow. Smiles blocks a body shot from Massey. Massey misses with a hook from the clinch. Massey blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Massey is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Smiles tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Smiles is rocked! Massey lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Oh Smiles is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Massey pushes Smiles against the cage. Massey is working some dirty boxing. Massey pushes off with a quick right hook! Smiles goes down! Smiles tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Massey moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
