PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mladen Mladenovich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mladenovich comes to the cage accompanied by Belphegor - Sanctus Perversum. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mladen Mladenovich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Todd Cannon!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Cannon looks to land a combination but Mladenovich avoids it well.
Mladenovich appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A combination from Cannon does no damage.
Mladenovich changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Mladenovich shoots in and bounces Cannon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cannon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mladenovich trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Mladenovich has gone for a leg lock! Cannon slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mladenovich's guard.

Cannon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Cannon works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Cannon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mladenovich is looking to get back to is feet but Cannon passes into side control.

Mladenovich wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Mladenovich wants to get back to his feet but Cannon is dominant here and he's now got Mladenovich's back!
Mladenovich is trying to get back to his feet but Cannon has full control of the position and if anything, Mladenovich has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Cannon misses with a wild combination.

Mladenovich shoots in and gets a takedown into Cannon's guard.

Mladenovich sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cannon's guard.

Mladenovich is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mladenovich is working for a kimura but Cannon is defending it quite comfortably.

Mladenovich takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mladenovich is working for a submission of some sort.

Mladenovich seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Cannon has recovered full guard.
Mladen Mladenovich overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mladenovich wants to control from the top but Cannon keeps moving.
Cannon trying to keep a closed guard but Mladenovich is proving a slippery customer.
Cannon is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mladenovich slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Cannon wants to control but Mladenovich postures up.

Mladenovich swings around for an armbar but Cannon sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mladenovich's guard.

Cannon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cannon trying to control the position from guard on top but Mladenovich is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mladenovich wants to get back to his feet but Cannon is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cannon controlling from the top position.
Mladenovich keeping moving, preventing Cannon from controlling successfully.
Mladenovich has momentary wrist control but Cannon slips an elbow through the middle.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cannon stands and throws Mladenovich's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mladen Mladenovich will probably get the nod.
That's time! Mladenovich's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cannon misses the shot to the body.
Mladenovich feinted with a counter takedown.
Cannon throws a left and a right that both miss

and Mladenovich counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Mladenovich is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cannon defends it well.
Mladenovich prevents Cannon from improving his position.

Mladenovich seems to be working for a kimura but Cannon defends the submission attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cannon has his hands clasped together around Mladenovich's back. He's all about the action.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mladenovich lands a couple of elbows.
Cannon throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Mladenovich passes Cannon's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Mladenovich seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Cannon is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Mladen Mladenovich!
A less than humble Mladen Mladenovich misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
