PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darren Durrant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Lucas will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren Durrant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Chris Dean and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lucas goes for a double leg but Durrant avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Durrant continues to drive forward.

Durrant shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Lucas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Durrant is controlling him.
Lucas keeping full guard, as Durrant tries to pass.

Lucas working for a triangle but Durrant defends it easily.
Lucas is trying to control the position but Durrant postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lucas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Durrant has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lucas thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Horrible takedown attempt by Durrant or perhaps it was just good defense by Lucas, which made it look bad.
Lucas wants to counter with a clinch but Durrant pushes him away.
Durrant shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lucas but Lucas pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Durrant closes the distance and clinches up with Lucas, looking for a takedown. Durrant pushes Lucas against the cage but Lucas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Lucas is looking for a kimura but Durrant is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lucas to get the leverage.

Lucas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lucas tries to pass to full mount but Durrant defends it.

Lucas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Durrant tries to avoid it but Lucas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Durrant to the ground. Durrant escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Durrant throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lucas's waist but Lucas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Durrant off to one side.
Lucas darts in looking for a takedown but Durrant gets double underhooks and turns Lucas into the cage.
We've been informed that Lucas has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Durrant seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lucas for as long as he can get away with.

Lucas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Durrant defends it easily.

A nice side step and Lucas releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
