PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cristoff Melkovick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darko Vader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vader has chosen Thunderstruck by ACDC as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Darko Vader was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Cristoff Melkovick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Darko Vader!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vader cracks Melkovick with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Vader swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nice defenses there by Vader.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Vader! But no joy.
Vader misses with a looping right.
Melkovick misses with a left hand
and Vader counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Melkovick scores with a jab. Vader acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Vader counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

We've been told by Melkovick's head coaches at MMA Sanok Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Vader is trying to break free.
Melkovick keeps control of Vader as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Melkovick tightens his grip and picks Vader up, before dumping him to the ground. Vader manages to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Melkovick is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Melkovick postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Vader looking for a sweep. Not yet Vader, not yet.
Melkovick throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vader works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Melkovick stands up over Vader, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Melkovick lands a couple of elbows.
Melkovick has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vader can do anything to dispel that myth.

Vader is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vader wants to sweep here but Melkovick controlling him for the moment.

Melkovick has gone for a leg lock! Vader slips out almost immediately though and dives into Melkovick's guard.

Melkovick manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vader manages to get himself to full guard.

Vader fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Melkovick looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Cristoff Melkovick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Vader counters with a straight right hand.

Despite the aggression on Vader's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Vader throws an off balance right hand
letting Melkovick counter with a right hand.

Vader takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Darko Vader seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Melkovick takes one to the side of the head.
Vader throws a shot from downtown. Melkovick moves away and avoids it.

Vader moves out of range of the strikes.
Vader throws a lazy right hand but Melkovick sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Melkovick or perhaps it was just good defense by Vader, which made it look bad.
Melkovick has his takedown stuffed
and Vader counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Melkovick is looking to clinch but Vader is avoiding it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A lazy left from Melkovick finds it's target.
Melkovick shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Vader counters with a right hand to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cristoff Melkovick. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Vader escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Vader jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Melkovick on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Vader has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Vader throws a jab but it's blocked by Melkovick.
Melkovick rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Vader counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Darko Vader showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Melkovick shoots for a double leg takedown but Vader sprawls well. He's pushed Melkovick's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Vader lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Oh Melkovick is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Vader counters with a nice body shot.
Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Vader! Melkovick is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darko Vader!
An out of breath Darko Vader thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
