Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jeremy Lukobele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joaquin Herrera!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick lands from Lukobele.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Herrera ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Herrera blocks a head kick by Lukobele.
Herrera replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Lukobele blocks it well.
Herrera looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Lukobele fails to land with a series of punches.
Lukobele throws a head kick but Herrera moves out of range.
Herrera shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lukobele napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Herrera takes a little break here. Lukobele wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Lukobele is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Herrera is controlling him well.
Herrera happy to just control the position for now.
Herrera scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lukobele to see if he's OK.
Herrera thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Herrera in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Herrera creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Herrera landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Herrera moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Herrera lands a nice forearm strike.
Herrera has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Herrera is working Lukobele over with some ground and pound from side control.
Herrera is putting a hurting on Lukobele here, landing some big shots from side control.
Lukobele is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Herrera asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Herrera cracks Lukobele with a big right hand but Lukobele just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Herrera working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Herrera is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Lukobele looks calm but he's in trouble here. Herrera gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Lukobele is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Herrera lets go of the hold and Lukobele can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Joaquin Herrera!
Joaquin Herrera tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
