PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tad Travis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Durrant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tad Travis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darren Durrant!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Francis DeMontford and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Travis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Durrant is trying to defend but Travis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Durrant trying to hold on to Travis's head to control him but Travis postures up.
Durrant tries to get to full guard but Travis has control of the leg.
Durrant manages to get to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Durrant holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Travis darts in looking for a takedown but Durrant gets double underhooks and turns Travis into the cage.

Durrant scores with a takedown into Travis's guard.
Travis wants to control but Durrant passes easily into half guard.

Durrant perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Travis is doing well to control the position and prevent Durrant from advancing to side control.
Durrant working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Travis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Travis wants to control but Durrant passes into side.

Durrant wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Travis, who protects the arm well.
Travis struggling a bit here.

Travis misses with a strike from the bottom.

Durrant stands up.
Travis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Durrant drives through with a takedown into Travis's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Durrant seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Travis trying to keep a closed guard but Durrant is proving a slippery customer.

Durrant stops Travis from standing up.
Durrant pushes down on Travis's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Travis is trying to maintain the position but Durrant is very close to passing his half guard.

Durrant is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Travis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Durrant.
Durrant moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Travis.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Durrant has taken the fight to the clinch.

Durrant is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Travis can't fight it off and eventually Durrant manages to take the fight to the floor. Travis looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Travis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Travis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Durrant tries to free his leg and advance position but Travis is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Travis throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Travis wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Travis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Durrant has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Durrant not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Travis looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Durrant shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Travis is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Travis breaks from the clinch.
Durrant tries to clinch up but Travis circles away and keeps his distance.
Travis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Travis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Durrant circles away.
Tad Travis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Durrant closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Travis did well to prevent Durrant getting side control.
Travis tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Durrant manages to move to mount!
Durrant wants to take Travis's back here but Travis is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Durrant looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Durrant controlling the position easily from mount.

Travis tries to hold on but Durrant postures up.
Travis is trying to escape the mount.

Travis wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Durrant is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Travis has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Durrant has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Travis is in real trouble here. Durrant gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Travis is tapping out! Durrant wins by rear naked choke!
