Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Neddy Merrill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Chael Plouman! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merrill misses with the combination.
Plouman doesn't succeed with the takedown and Merrill counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Merrill. Plouman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Merrill defends well. Merrill is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Merrill wants to control from the top but Plouman keeps moving. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Plouman looking for a guillotine here but Merrill defends easily.
Merrill postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Plouman thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Plouman looking for subs off his back but Merrill has passed one foot through into half guard.
Merrill is looking to advance position but Plouman won't allow it. Merrill lands with a punch from half guard. Plouman is looking for a sweep. Merrill is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Merrill trying to control the action but Plouman is working from the bottom. Plouman has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Merrill thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Plouman looking for submissions off his back. Merrill is trying to control. Plouman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Plouman wants to get back to full guard. Plouman wants to sweep but Merrill has passed to side control! Plouman is looking for a sweep. Plouman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Plouman tries to roll over but Merrill keeps him under control. Plouman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Merrill pulls his head out easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Plouman manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Plouman wants to sweep but no luck. Plouman looking for a triangle here. Merrill is fighting it but it looks tight! Plouman pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Merrill is tapping out - this one is all over!
