PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Larry Kushman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis McMurray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis McMurray is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Larry Kushman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lewis McMurray!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kushman closes the distance and pushes McMurray back into the cage.
A nice left hand lands by McMurray.
Kushman tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
A body shot lands from McMurray.

Kushman is fighting off a takedown attempt but McMurray is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kushman to the mat. Kushman regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McMurray cracks Kushman with a solid left hand.

McMurray lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Kushman has his foot on McMurray's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McMurray works his way back into a safe position though.

Kushman controls McMurray momentarily but McMurray frees himself.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

McMurray is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kushman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McMurray can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kushman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kushman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McMurray is aware though and is defending well.
Kushman has momentary wrist control but McMurray slips an elbow through the middle.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McMurray throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kushman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kushman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McMurray defends it easily.
Kushman wants to sweep here but McMurray controlling him for the moment.
McMurray postures up and lands a big shot to Kushman's brow.

Kushman wants to control but McMurray passes easily into half guard.
Kushman manages to get to full guard.

Kushman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McMurray doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McMurray manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McMurray is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

McMurray postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kushman jabbing away but nothing is landing.

McMurray rushes Kushman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

McMurray is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kushman can't fight it off and eventually McMurray manages to take the fight to the floor. Kushman looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

McMurray drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kushman dives on top into guard.

We've been hearing that Kushman has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Kushman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but McMurray manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kushman has McMurray in his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McMurray lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Kushman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McMurray gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

McMurray has taken the fight to the clinch.

It looks like Larry Kushman has been cut.
McMurray drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

McMurray's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
McMurray goes for a takedown attempt but Kushman pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Kushman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McMurray paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McMurray unleashes a big counter combination but Kushman bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Kushman just misses with a punch to the body.
Kushman moves to clinch but McMurray breaks away
and McMurray cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
McMurray keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kushman.

Kushman gets tackled into the cage by McMurray. McMurray maintains the clinch.
McMurray is working Kushman over against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McMurray lands a left hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kushman misses with a short punch on the inside.
McMurray scores with a shot to the side of Kushman's head.

McMurray breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lewis McMurray showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Larry Kushman's cut.
That's time! Kushman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Kushman feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits McMurrays jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

McMurray takes the fight into the clinch.
Lewis McMurray seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Kushman is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McMurray is defending well for now.

McMurray is leaning against Kushman and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

McMurray tightens his grip and picks Kushman up, before dumping him to the ground. Kushman manages to land in guard.

McMurray winds up and cracks Kushman with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
McMurray is thwarting Kushman's attempts to control the position.

McMurray is trying to control. Kushman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Kushman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McMurray pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kushman is trying to defend against the ground and pound but McMurray scores with a couple of nice shots.

McMurray lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
McMurray drops an elbow to the side of Kushman's head.

McMurray is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Oh Kushman is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
McMurray lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

McMurray scores with a big shot! Kushman's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Kushman! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lewis McMurray!
Lewis McMurray seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
