Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Randy Alcatraz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
27 - 29 - 0, fighting out of London, Jimmy Caldwell! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Caldwell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alcatraz pulls Caldwell in close to prevent any damage. Caldwell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Caldwell tries to free his leg and advance position but Alcatraz is retaining full guard. Caldwell has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Alcatraz is proving hard to escape from. Alcatraz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Caldwell manages to get himself to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alcatraz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Caldwell working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Alcatraz. We've been hearing good reports from Alcatraz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alcatraz scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Alcatraz won't allow Caldwell to sweep him here. Alcatraz looking to pass the guard. Alcatraz sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Alcatraz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Caldwell moves away. Caldwell closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Caldwell lands in his opponent's guard. Alcatraz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Caldwell wants to control from the top but Alcatraz keeps moving. That's two minutes gone in the round. Alcatraz keeping moving, preventing Caldwell from controlling successfully. Alcatraz tries to land a sweep but no joy. Caldwell passes into half guard. Caldwell trying to pass the guard but Alcatraz defending well.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Alcatraz shoots in but Caldwell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Caldwell takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Alcatraz connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Caldwell momentarily.
Caldwell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Caldwell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alcatraz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Alcatraz drops down looking for a counter takedown but Caldwell sprawls and moves away. Nice takedown defense from Caldwell. No joy for Alcatraz on that attempt. Alcatraz scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Alcatraz swings away with a body shot that misses
and Caldwell counters with a nice uppercut. A looping hook to the body misses from Caldwell. Alcatraz does a little dance to reset his feet. Caldwell closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Alcatraz quickly recovers to half guard. Alcatraz is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Caldwell tries to stand but as he's on his way up, Alcatraz locks on to a trailing arm. Oh, he's locked on a tight looking armbar - Caldwell could be in trouble here! Yes, he's tapped! This one is all over!
