PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brady Baird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Clipper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brady Baird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brian Clipper!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Ivan Kurochkin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Clipper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Baird chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Baird clinches up with Clipper and pushes him back against the cage.
Baird is pressed up against the cage. Clipper has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Baird down to the mat. Baird avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Baird gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Clipper has Baird pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Baird manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Baird manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Baird controls Clipper momentarily but Clipper frees himself.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Clipper is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Clipper accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Clipper will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Clipper throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Baird clinches.

Baird tries to score a body lock takedown but Clipper shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Baird throws a strike but Clipper rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Clipper thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Baird has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Clipper off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Clipper throws a series of punches but Baird avoids them all with ease.
Baird is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Baird moves into the clinch successfully.
Baird wants a takedown.
Clipper is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Clipper has picked Baird up - he's going for a ride! Clipper dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Baird tries to get to full guard but Clipper has control of the leg.
Baird moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Baird moves into the clinch successfully.
Baird has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Clipper is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Clipper wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Baird has him pressed against the cage.
Baird is working for takedown but Clipper is calmly controlling the position for now.
Baird is trying to drag Clipper to the mat but Clipper just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brady Baird. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Clipper is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Clipper ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Clipper no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Baird decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Horrible takedown by Baird or perhaps it was just good defense by Clipper which made him look bad.

Baird moves forwards but Clipper connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Baird shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Clipper pinned against the cage. Clipper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Baird shoots in looking for a takedown. Clipper tries to sprawl out of it but Baird keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Clipper manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Baird goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Clipper turns into him and now he's in Baird's guard.

Baird throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Clipper escapes and throws Baird's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Brian Clipper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Baird shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Baird showed some decent athleticism there.

Baird seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Clipper is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Clipper has his foot on Baird's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Baird works his way back into a safe position though.

Baird drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Clipper manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Baird has Clipper in his guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brady Baird.
I think Baird has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
