Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Simon Bates!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hawk throws a lazy body kick
and Bates counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Hawk drives through with a takedown into Bates's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Bates wriggles free and stands up.
Sloppy strikes from Hawk. Those never looked like landing.
Bates dives in and grabs Hawk's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hawk pushes down on Bates's head and hops out.
Bates wants to clinch.
Hawk shoots in but no luck this time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hawk misses with a wild combination.
Hawk fails to land with a series of punches.
Hawk throws a left and a right that both miss
and Bates counters with a left and a right that stings Hawk.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bates.
Mike Hawk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Simon Bates.
Hawk falls off balance throwing a combination
and Bates counters with a left and a right that stings Hawk.
Hawk is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Bates feints with a jab and clips Hawk right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Hawk is sent crashing into the canvas and Bates leaps in for the kill! Hawk tries to get to his feet but Bates is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Hawk is in need of a savior and steps in!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Simon Bates!
Simon Bates took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
