Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ramon Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Samm Rooney! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rooney fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gracie, pushing him back against the cage. Rooney has clasped his hands together around Gracie's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Gracie tries to improve position but can't. You can see the frustration on Gracie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Gracie dodges the ground and pound from Rooney. Gracie isn't going anywhere. Gracie manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rooney's best efforts. Gracie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Gracie is controlling Rooney's trapped leg to prevent Rooney from advancing to side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie actively working from the bottom here. Gracie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie gets back to full guard.
Rooney is looking to advance position but Gracie has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Gracie controlling from the full mount. Rooney tries to lock up and control but Gracie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Rooney's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Poor strikes thrown by Gracie there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Gracie throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rooney because Gracie loaded up on that one.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie lands with some strikes. Gracie seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Rooney is holding on tight.
Rooney tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control. Rooney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Poor strikes thrown by Gracie there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Rooney tries to buck Gracie off so he can stand up but Gracie has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Rooney falls backwards, slamming Gracie to the mat but Gracie holds on tight! Rooney is forced to tap and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ramon Gracie! Ramon Gracie seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
