Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Marley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shawn Michaels! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marley fakes the leg kick and cracks Michaels in the body. Michaels wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. James Marley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Marley dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Michaels. That did some damage! Marley sizes up Michaels with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Michaels gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Marley counters with an outside leg kick.
Good leg kick by Marley there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Michaels avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Michaels misses with a looping left. As Michaels backs away, Marley returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. A punch combination from Michaels misses. Michaels has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Marley. Michaels has a takedown stuffed. Michaels takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
It looks like Shawn Michaels has been cut. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A clash of legs there as Michaels blocks the low kick. Michaels throws a counter combo. James Marley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marley connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Marley tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Michaels was well out of range. Poor timing from Marley. Marley throws a leg kick and Michaels counters by clinching up. Michaels is trying to break the clinch but Marley is controlling him. Michaels slows down the pace here.
Michaels wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Marley has him pressed against the cage. Marley misses with the head strike.
Marley throws a punch but it's blocked by Michaels. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Michaels. Marley keeps control of Michaels as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Michaels stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Michaels breaks the clinch.
Marley moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Marley scores with a sloppy right hand. Michaels should have avoided that one. Michaels looks to land a combination but Marley avoids it well. Michaels moves into the clinch successfully.
Michaels tries to work over Marley's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Michaels breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Marley lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Michaels moves in looking to clinch but Marley pushes him off. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Marley scores with a kick to the midsection. Michaels looks winded! Marley feints and then cracks Michaels's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Michaels down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Michaels takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Marley throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Marley could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Marley lands with a thumping leg kick.
Marley misses the shot to the body. Michaels has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Marley. Michaels has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Michaels there as he acknowledges the shot. A decent looking body kick lands there for Marley. Marley explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Marley dips down and scores with a jab to the body. A thudding body kick lands there by Marley!
This has been an exciting period of action! Marley scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Michaels doesn't seem bothered though. Michaels has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Marley. That kick from Marley tenderised Michaels's leg. Michaels is trying to keep his angry face on. Marley closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Michaels out cold! Michaels corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). James Marley! James Marley seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
