11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mauricio Dela Cruz! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dela Cruz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Walter but Walter pushes him off and we're back to square one. The fight moves into the clinch position. Dela Cruz is pressed up against the cage. Walter has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dela Cruz down to the mat. Dela Cruz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. A jab from Dela Cruz misses. Nice takedown defense from Walter. No joy for Dela Cruz on that attempt. Walter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dela Cruz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Walter tries to advance to mount but Dela Cruz denies him. Dela Cruz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Walter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Walter is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dela Cruz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Walter has knee on belly and moves into mount. Dela Cruz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Dela Cruz tries to lock up and control but Walter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Walter looking to control but Dela Cruz is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Dela Cruz is desperately trying to improve his position but Walter has a good base and remains in mount. Walter tries to control but Dela Cruz wriggling away. Dela Cruz really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Dela Cruz felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Walter wants to take Dela Cruz's back here but Dela Cruz is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Walter wants to finish this one by submission but Dela Cruz is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Walter. Dela Cruz gets back to half guard. Dela Cruz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Walter is working away from the top position though. Walter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Walter seems to be looking for submissions.
Walter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dela Cruz is just riding it out for now. Walter eventually gives up the hold. Walter trying to pass the guard but Dela Cruz defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dela Cruz looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Dela Cruz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dela Cruz. Walter looking to pass the guard. Walter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dela Cruz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Walter has managed to get both his arms back between Dela Cruz's legs - danger averted. Walter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walter forces his way into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dela Cruz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Walter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Walter's back! Walter tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dela Cruz is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Walter can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Walter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dela Cruz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dela Cruz has escaped and now he's on top! Peter Walter dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Walter shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dela Cruz as he jumps to the side. Dela Cruz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Dela Cruz content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Dela Cruz distracts Walter with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Dela Cruz postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Mauricio Dela Cruz has got the better of the ground game so far. Dela Cruz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Dela Cruz lands a couple of decent looking shots. Walter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dela Cruz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Dela Cruz stands and throws Walter's legs to the side, diving into side control. Dela Cruz trying to control the action but Walter is working from the bottom. Dela Cruz scoring with punches and elbows. Dela Cruz is chipping away with strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round. Dela Cruz lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Walter keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Dela Cruz looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Walter covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
