Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Nujoma! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Steve Cox! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cox's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Nujoma connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cox scrambles back to his feet. Cox tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Nujoma manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. It looked like Nujoma wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Cox ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Cox uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nujoma. Nujoma ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cox moves away. Cox tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nujoma was well out of range. Poor timing from Cox. Cox cracks Nujoma with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Nujoma with a body punch. A glancing blow. Nujoma fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cox looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Cox shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Nice defenses there by Cox. And Cox tries to counter it with a takedown but Nujoma pushes his down on his head and steps out. Cox looks to score with a jab to the body but Nujoma is just out of range. Nujoma digs a good body shot into Cox's ribs. Nujoma avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A counter left hand to the body from Nujoma misses its target. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cox misses with an uppercut
and Nujoma counters with a stiff right hand. Cox darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Cox thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nujoma wants to get back to full guard but Cox has passed into side control. Nujoma wants to control but Cox postures up. Cox trying to control the action but Nujoma is working from the bottom. Cox tries to score with some ground and pound. Nujoma controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Cox creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nujoma sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Nujoma tries to bench press Cox off him but Cox keeps the position. Cox looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Nujoma avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cox.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cox tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nujoma is trying to get back to half guard. Nujoma wants to control but Cox postures up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nujoma slips a jab from Cox. Nujoma fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cox manages to avoid it. Nujoma is looking to wear down Cox with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Nice uppercut there from Nujoma. A punch lands to the side of Nujoma 's head but he takes it in his stride. Cox looks to land a left hand but Nujoma moved out of range nicely. Nujoma comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Cox drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cox is staying tight to Nujoma's torso, preventing him from escaping.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cox in side control, throwing shots but Nujoma defends. Nujoma can't do much from the bottom here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Cox is looking to take a break and control but Nujoma is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nujoma tries to buck Cox off but Cox is having none of it. Nujoma is not content to let Cox control the position. Nujoma sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Cox is keen to just control but Nujoma is a slippery customer.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Nujoma tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cox was well out of range. Poor timing from Nujoma. Cox keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cox moves into the clinch. Nujoma working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Cox looking to slow down the pace here. Nujoma lands a hook to the side of the head. Cox goes for a takedown attempt but Nujoma pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Nujoma throws a shot from downtown. Cox moves away and avoids it. Cox is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Nujoma looks to land a left hand but Cox moved out of range nicely. Cox shoots and misses and Nujoma counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Sam Nujoma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Cox. Nujoma lands a body shot.
Nujoma ducks under a wild hook from Cox. Nujoma fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cox. Cox misses with a right hand and Cox takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Nujoma uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cox. Nujoma swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Nujoma ducks under a wild hook from Cox. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sam Nujoma dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Cox throws a series of punches but Nujoma avoids them all with ease. Cox clinches with his opponent.
Cox scores with an uppercut up the middle. Nujoma escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cox swings for the body but Nujoma moves out of range.
Cox misses with an uppercut. Nujoma saw that one coming. A counter left hand to the body from Nujoma misses its target. Sam Nujoma is winning the standup battle so far. Cox thows a left - swing and a miss! Nujoma feinted with a counter takedown. Cox is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent. Nujoma looks to score with a jab to the body but Cox is just out of range. Nujoma misses with a series of wild punches.
Cox shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Nujoma tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Cox is able to avoid easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cox looks to land a left hand but Nujoma moved out of range nicely. Nujoma lands a jab. Nujoma avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cox drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cox working some strikes from top position. Cox must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cox working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nujoma is on top in guard.
Nujoma sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cox's guard. Nujoma is looking for a kimura but Cox is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nujoma to get the leverage. Nujoma is thwarting Cox's attempts to control the position. Cox has a hand on Nujoma's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Nujoma takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Nujoma looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Nujoma tries to control but Cox wriggling away. Cox keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Nujoma will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Cox tries to hold on but Nujoma pushes him away. Cox is trying desperately to improve position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nujoma tries to control but Cox wriggling away. Nujoma goes for an armbar but Cox turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Cox.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Nujoma uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cox. Cox fails with the takedown. Nujoma throws a hook but Cox blocks it. Nujoma misses the shot to the body. Nujoma defending well as Cox loads up on a big left hand. It looked like Nujoma was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Cox. Steve Cox seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cox loads up on a big right hand but Nujoma slips the punch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nujoma misses the jab. Cox looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Nujoma! Nujoma manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Nujoma is looking for a sweep. Cox is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Nujoma is trying to maintain the position but Cox is very close to passing his half guard. Nujoma is looking to improve his position.

Cox is looking to control the position but Nujoma frees his trapped leg and locks up an armbar from the bottom! It looks tight! Cox grimaces and holds on for a second but is forced to tap or have his arm broken! Slick Jiu Jitsu from Nujoma there - Cox really paying for some sloppy defensive work!
