PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Saleem Al Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Wooten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Al Khan comes into the arena with Three Days Grace - Scared blaring out of the sound system. Wooten has chosen Judas Priest- You've got another thing coming as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Saleem Al Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Wooten!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wooten throws a chopping leg kick but Al Khan manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Al Khan is defended easily by Wooten.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wooten enables Al Khan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wooten manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wooten is looking to stand up but Al Khan isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Al Khan wants to control from the top but Wooten keeps moving.

Al Khan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wooten is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Al Khan, into his guard.


Al Khan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wooten defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Al Khan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wooten trying to control but Al Khan is working from the bottom.
Wooten throws a big right hand that misses.

Al Khan throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Wooten drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wooten jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Al Khan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wooten can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wooten postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Wooten trying to control the position from guard on top but Al Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wooten trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wooten lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooten postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Al Khan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wooten can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wooten with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Al Khan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wooten throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Wooten trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Al Khan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wooten defends well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wooten pushes down on Al Khan's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Wooten sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Al Khan defending well though.
Wooten throwing shots but Al Khan is blocking nicely.
Wooten lands with a punch from half guard.
Al Khan regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Wooten.

Wooten trying to control the position from guard on top but Al Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wooten is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Wooten stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Al Khan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooten throws a strike but Al Khan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Al Khan wants to control from the top but Wooten keeps moving.
Al Khan wants to pass the guard but Wooten is keeping the position.

Wooten uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Al Khan dives in and grabs Wooten's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wooten pushes down on Al Khan's head and hops out.
Wooten connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Al Khan tumbling to the canvas! Wooten pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Al Khan was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Kevin Wooten!
Kevin Wooten looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'I TOLD YOU! I'm not here to take part! I'M HERE TO TAKE OVER!'.
