Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Teddy Sayre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yokushima Mayagi! The judges for this bout are , and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mayagi shoots for a takedown but Sayre saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Mayagi should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Sayre tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mayagi swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mayagi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sayre tries to avoid it but Mayagi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sayre to the ground. Sayre escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Nice sprawl there from Sayre as Mayagi shoots in. Teddy Sayre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yokushima Mayagi. Sayre tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mayagi swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mayagi looks for a takedown but Sayre sprawls well. Yokushima Mayagi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mayagi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sayre tries to avoid it but Mayagi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sayre to the ground. Sayre escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Sayre instigates a clinch. Sayre pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Sayre tries to clinch up. Sayre tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mayagi paws at him with a jab and circles away. Sayre takes the fight into the clinch. Nice elbow from Sayre.
It looks like Yokushima Mayagi has been cut. Sayre avoiding damage.
Mayagi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sayre gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Sayre manages to pull guard.
Mayagi looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sayre is looking to stand up but Mayagi isn't so interested in that idea. Mayagi passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayagi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sayre doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mayagi. Mayagi looks gassed! Sayre trying to control here.
Mayagi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mayagi wants to work for an arm triangle but Sayre is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mayagi stands up out of the half guard. Sayre looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Mayagi misses with a takedown attempt and Sayre counters with a three punch combo that has Mayagi backing up. Mayagi nods at Sayre to acknowledge the strikes. Sayre clinches up against the cage. Mayagi fails to pull guard.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sayre. Mayagi drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sayre lands a knee to the body.
Sayre escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sayre rushes Mayagi and presses him up against the cage. Mayagi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sayre fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sayre has Mayagi up against the cage in a clinch.
Sayre is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Sayre escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mayagi shoots in for a double leg but Sayre sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Sayre lands with a kick to the temple. Mayagi shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Mayagi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sayre clinches. Mayagi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mayagi takes a knee right on the jaw!
Sayre breaks the clinch.
Sayre instigates a clinch. Sayre breaks the clinch.
Mayagi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Mayagi is rocked! Sayre has closed the distance and engaged Mayagi in a clinch.
Mayagi is still on wobbly legs! Can Sayre finish him? Mayagi takes a knee right on the jaw!
Sayre breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sayre clinches up with Mayagi and pushes him back against the cage. Sayre manages to break the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sayre steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Mayagi is out on his feet! Sayre sets himself and nearly takes Mayagi's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:07 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Teddy Sayre!
