Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Krystian Cierpka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vinicius De Jesus Vieira! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cierpka misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. De Jesus Vieira drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Cierpka defends it well. Cierpka tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but De Jesus Vieira swivels and escapes. Cierpka shoots in looking for a takedown but De Jesus Vieira manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cierpka's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Krystian Cierpka. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cierpka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. De Jesus Vieira was covering up waiting for the punch and Cierpka finishes the takedown easily into guard. Cierpka wants to control from the top but De Jesus Vieira keeps moving. Cierpka is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cierpka is stalling in the full guard. Cierpka trying to control the position from guard on top but De Jesus Vieira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cierpka drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and De Jesus Vieira dives on top into guard. Cierpka pulls De Jesus Vieira in close to prevent any damage. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Cierpka has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but De Jesus Vieira can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. De Jesus Vieira really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cierpka. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. De Jesus Vieira wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Cierpka's closed guard. He's half up but Cierpka has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Cierpka pivots and extends the arm, De Jesus Vieira falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Cierpka! Well done that man!
