Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Courtney Byrd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos throws a lazy head kick
and Byrd counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Byrd stops Santos from standing up.
Byrd controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Byrd postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Byrd stands up over Santos, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Byrd connects with a nice short shot to Santos's temple.

As Santos tries to get set, Byrd tries to push him back and clinch up but Santos manages to avoid the attempt.

Santos throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Santos closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Byrd to the mat! Byrd manages to get full guard.
Byrd has his feet on Santos's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Santos shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Byrd manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Byrd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santos shoots in and bounces Byrd off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Byrd pushes Santos off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That was a close round but I would say that Courtney Byrd will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Byrd is controlling him.
Byrd drops back looking for a leg! Santos is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Santos manages to kick Byrd off! Byrd jumps back into Santos's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Byrd connects with a big shot to the side of Santos's head.

What can Santos do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
