Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mariano Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cowboy Roy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cowboy Roy has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mariano Slater! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cowboy Roy! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Slater sprawls well. Slater wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Roy gets slowly back to his feet. Roy looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Slater shoots in for a double leg but Roy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Roy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Slater pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Roy doesn't manage to clinch there - Slater circles away.
Slater attempts a counter takedown but Roy avoids it well and moves away. Slater throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Slater throws a nice looking combination but Roy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Slater dives in for a single leg takedown but Roy sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Roy shoots in looking for a takedown but Slater manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Roy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Roy looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Roy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Slater to score an easy takedown into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Slater chips away with some ground and pound. Slater postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Slater controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Slater landing some decent shots from guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Slater accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Slater postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Slater connects with a couple of short punches. Slater controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Slater chips away with some ground and pound. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Slater misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mariano Slater. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Slater closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Slater lands in his opponent's guard. Slater is in close to Roy's body, working some short punches and elbows. Slater lands a couple of elbows. Slater working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Slater is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Slater landing with the ground and pound. Slater distracts Roy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Roy preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Slater stands up over Roy, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Slater cracks Roy with a solid left hand. Slater postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Roy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Slater controls the pace. Slater with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Slater is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Slater landing some decent shots from guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mariano Slater dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Slater shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Roy on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Slater lands a nice short elbow. Slater landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Slater lands strikes from half guard. Slater with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Roy is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ground and pound from Slater. Mariano Slater overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Roy has hold of Slater's hands but Slater slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Roy taking some punishment here, with Slater in his half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Slater is figuring out what he wants to do next. Roy on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Slater is taking a breather. Roy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Slater lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Slater is nestled in close to Roy, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Slater stands up out of the half guard. Slater will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Slater misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slater throws a series of punches but Roy avoids them all with ease. Slater is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Roy can do to turn this around?

That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice takedown defense from Slater. No joy for Roy on that attempt. Roy moves out of range of the body kick from Slater.
Slater shoots for a double leg takedown but Roy sprawls well. He's pushed Slater's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Slater keeps Roy at a distance using the push kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roy has a takedown stuffed. Slater seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Slater drives through and clinches with Roy against the cage.
Slater tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Roy just stands there and leans against the cage. Slater wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. A head punch blocked on the inside by Roy. Slater landing knees to the body.
Slater is trying to break the clinch but Roy is controlling him. Slater tries to pull guard but Roy holds him up against the cage and eventually Slater drops back down to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Slater wants to get back to striking at distance but Roy won't allow it.
Slater tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Roy smiles and moves away.

Roy is looking for a takedown. Slater jumps guard but Roy stands there with Slater around his waist. Slater gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Slater's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Slater is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Roy is keeping busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mariano Slater dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Roy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Slater. Roy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Slater paws at him with a jab and circles away. Slater shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Roy defends it nicely. Roy throws out a counter right but Slater avoids it with no problem. Cowboy Roy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Roy fails with the takedown and Slater counters with a left and a right that stings Roy. Roy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Slater throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Roy throws a body kick that misses. Slater seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
That's one minute gone in the round. Slater shoots in for a takedown but Roy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mariano Slater. That's going to take a lot out of him. Slater closes the distance and clinches up with Roy, looking for a takedown. Slater pushes Roy against the cage but Roy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mariano Slater is winning the standup battle so far. Slater shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Roy as he avoids it easily. Roy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Slater is fending him off so far but Roy persists. Nope, Slater circles away and we're back to standing. Mariano Slater is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Slater bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Roy is looking to regain half guard here but Slater keeps moving and retains side control. Roy tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Slater presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Slater with the ground and pound from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Slater controlling from mount. Roy tries to lock up and control but Slater gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Slater sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Slater is landing with some decent strikes but Roy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Slater has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Roy's face.
Slater has control of Roy's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Roy regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Slater postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Roy looks a forlorn figure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Slater cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Slater raining down hammerfists from mount. Slater pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Roy is wriggling around trying to escape.
Slater looking to control and managing it successfully. Slater lands with some strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Roy takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Slater punishing his opponent with strikes. Slater controlling from the full mount. Slater landing strikes from the mount and Roy is in trouble! Slater working the ground and pound effectively.
Slater lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Roy hang on? Slater content just to control the position here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cowboy Roy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mariano Slater is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Slater is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Roy can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that's the end of the fight! Mariano Slater showed his dominance in that final round. Well Slater has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
