1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sterling Powers! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Powers wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Patterson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Patterson pulls Powers into guard.
Patterson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Powers is aware though and is defending well. Patterson is looking for a triangle but Powers pushes his legs off easily.
Patterson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Powers trying to control but Patterson is working from the bottom. Powers tries to free his leg and advance position but Patterson is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Patterson working for a triangle but Powers defends it easily.

Powers trying to stand up but can't free himself from Patterson's guard. Patterson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Powers shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Patterson looking for submissions off his back. Powers scoring with strikes to the body and head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Powers escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Powers! Powers is chipping away with strikes.
Powers cracks Patterson with a big right hand but Patterson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Patterson is looking for a sweep. Powers wants to stand but Patterson has his arm trapped. Patterson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Powers connects with a decent elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson is not content to let Powers control the position. Check out the look on Powers's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Powers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patterson keeps working. Patterson looks to move to half guard but instead Powers has passed into mount! Damn! Patterson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Powers seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Powers postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Patterson throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Powers cracks Patterson with a solid left hand. Patterson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Patterson is breathing heavily. Powers wants to get up but he can't break Patterson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Powers pushes Patterson up against the cage in a clinch. Powers works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Patterson looking for a guillotine here but Powers defends easily.

Sterling Powers dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Patterson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Powers to score an easy takedown into full guard. Sterling Powers has got the better of the ground game so far. Powers postures up and lands a big shot to Patterson's brow. Powers is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Powers scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Patterson throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson has a closed guard, preventing Powers from standing up. Powers passes into half guard under a barage of strikes. Patterson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Powers takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Powers wants to stand up but Patterson has a hold of him and won't allow it. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Patterson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Powers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Powers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Powers landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Powers looks up at the clock and then as Patterson takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Powers smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Patterson sneaks back into half guard. Still in half guard, Powers seems content to control. Patterson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Powers pulls his head out easily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Powers is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Patterson is refusing to be controlled, as Powers sits in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Powers is working for a submission of some sort.
Powers wants to take a breather but Patterson is having none of it. Powers tries to stand and escape but Patterson is controlling the position. Patterson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Patterson keeping moving, preventing Powers from controlling successfully. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Powers is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Patterson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Patterson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Powers stacks Patterson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Powers!

Powers has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Powers looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Powers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The fighters are working up against the cage. Patterson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Powers manages to pull guard.

Sterling Powers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Patterson dives in for a single leg takedown but Powers sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Powers avoids the body shot from Patterson.

Patterson gets in close and instigates a clinch. Patterson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Powers fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Patterson tries to clinch but Powers moves away so Powers counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Patterson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Powers wants to control from the top but Patterson keeps moving. That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Patterson is staying active underneath Powers, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Patterson looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Powers pushes past his half guard into mount! Patterson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Powers wants to control the pace but Patterson is squirming around nicely. Powers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Powers with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Powers is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Patterson is surviving well by controlling Powers's body position as best he can.

Powers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Patterson is looking to escape. We've been informed that Powers has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Powers wants to finish this one by submission but Patterson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Powers.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Powers with shots to the head and body - Patterson looks very uncomfortable down there. Powers is looking to stand but Patterson has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Powers looking to finish Patterson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Patterson! Powers manages to capitalize on a mistake by Patterson to take his back! Patterson defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Powers's arms. Powers doesn't have the hooks in and Patterson manages to turn into his guard.

And that's the end of the fight! Sterling Powers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Powers winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Sterling Powers decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
