PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Fjera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Browne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Browne is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Knock You Out. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Travis Browne!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fjera shoots and misses
and Browne cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Browne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Browne looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Fjera fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Browne, pushing him back against the cage.
Fjera is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Browne doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Browne blocks an uppercut.
Browne wants to break free but Fjera has control.
Browne working hard to break the clinch.
Fjera misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Browne.
Browne is working Fjera over against the cage.

Browne's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fjera throws a lazy right hand but Browne sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A little jabbing left from Browne on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Browne pushes Fjera off and gets back to his feet.

Browne uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fjera.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Browne throws an overhand right that lands on Fjera's shoulder, as Fjera tries to avoid the shot.

Fjera moves out of range of the strikes.
Fjera looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Fjera misses the shot to the body.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Browne! But no joy.

Fjera smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Fjera dives in and grabs Browne's left leg, looking for a takedown. Browne pushes down on Fjera's head and hops out.
Browne throws out a counter right but Fjera avoids it with no problem.
Browne is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

It seemed like Browne was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Fjera misses with a body shot
and Browne counters with a stiff right hand.

Fjera throws a predictable looking body shot
enabling Browne to counter with a crisp jab.
Fjera jabs Browne to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Browne looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Nick Fjera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Browne throws a looping overhand right but Fjera ducks down to avoid it.

Fjera shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Browne's guard.

Browne has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Fjera has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fjera is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Browne tries a body shot but Fjera blocks it.
Still in the clinch, Browne scores with a nice short uppercut.

Browne throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Fjeras head.
Fjera prevents Browne from breaking the clinch.
Browne prevents the takedown attempt.
Browne presses Fjera against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Browne wants to break free but Fjera has control.
Browne misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Fjera is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Browne's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Browne tries to work over Fjera's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Browne pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Browne blocks a jab.
Fjera sizes up Browne with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Fjera throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Browne might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Browne is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Fjera with a body shot.

Browne steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fjera.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Fjera is trying hard to land a takedown here. Browne sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The fighters circle momentarily. Fjera darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Browne has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

and Fjera counters with a nice double leg into side control. Browne won't be happy with that.
Browne takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Fjera misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Browne really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fjera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fjera scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Browne to see if he's OK.

Browne pushes Fjera away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Fjera gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Browne is not content to let Fjera control the position.

It looks like Travis Browne has been cut.
Fjera advances nicely into full mount.

Browne wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Fjera.
This has been an exciting period of action!
You get the feeling that Browne really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Fjera is landing with some decent strikes but Browne is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Fjera lands a heavy elbow.


That has opened up Travis Browne's cut even more.
Fjera lands a big shot there that rocks Browne but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.


Browne is rocked!


Travis Browne's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Travis Browne's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Nick Fjera!
Nick Fjera retains his heavyweight title!
Our winner, Nick Fjera, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
