PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amir Al Jasser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Al Jasser comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Oh Death kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Amir Al Jasser will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Amir Al Jasser!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al Jasser cracks Alexander with a good jab.


It looks like Matt Alexander has been cut.
Al Jasser throws a series of punches but Alexander moves out of range.
Al Jasser blocks a jab.
Al Jasser looks to land a left hand but Alexander moved out of range nicely.
Alexander appears to be looking for a big counter.

Alexander moves into the clinch successfully.

Alexander tightens his grip and picks Al Jasser up, before dumping him to the ground. Al Jasser manages to land in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alexander throws a big right hand that misses.
Alexander is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Al Jasser has momentary wrist control but Alexander slips an elbow through the middle.
Alexander's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Alexander has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Al Jasser has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Extreme MMA (7 Elites $250/week). Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

It looked like Alexander was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Alexander throws a series of punches but Al Jasser avoids them all with ease.

Al Jasser moves in looking to clinch but Alexander pushes him off.
Alexander misses with a low kick.

Al Jasser shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Alexander is trying to defend but Al Jasser finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Alexander moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alexander has his hands on Al Jasser's head, controlling the position.
Al Jasser really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alexander. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Al Jasser got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alexander has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Al Jasser has managed to get both his arms back between Alexander's legs - danger averted.
Alexander is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Alexander is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Al Jasser trying to control the position from guard on top but Alexander is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Alexander is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Alexander bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Al Jasser's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alexander slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander has Al Jasser pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Alexander pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Al Jasser tumbling to the mat - Alexander dives into Al Jasser's guard.
Alexander is looking to work some ground and pound but Al Jasser has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Alexander swats away the attempt to clinch by Al Jasser.

Matt Alexander is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alexander closes the distance and clinches up with Al Jasser, looking for a takedown. Alexander pushes Al Jasser against the cage but Al Jasser circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Amir Al Jasser seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Al Jasser jabs Alexander right on the nose. Alexander blinks but takes it well.
Al Jasser misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Al Jasser closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Alexander did well to prevent Al Jasser getting side control.

Alexander works his way to full guard. Good work.

Alexander lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Alexander controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Al Jasser avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Alexander is stalling in the full guard.
Alexander seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Al Jasser for as long as he can get away with.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Amir Al Jasser will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Al Jasser takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Alexander continues to stall.
More hug and hope from Alexander.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Alexander throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Al Jasser's waist but Al Jasser gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alexander off to one side.
Al Jasser fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Alexander is out of range.
Alexander swats away the attempt to clinch by Al Jasser.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Al Jasser checks a leg kick.
Alexander looks for a takedown but Al Jasser sprawls well.

Alexander shoots in and gets a takedown into Al Jasser's guard.

Al Jasser can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alexander controls the pace.
Alexander postures up in Al Jasser's guard and throws a big left but Al Jasser blocks it.

Al Jasser tries to clinch but Alexander moves out of range.
Alexander throws a quick counter kick to the body but Al Jasser avoids it.

Al Jasser tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Alexander showed his dominance in that final round.
