PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Thiago Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Guy!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guy shoots in but Silva avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silva fails with the takedown

and Guy counters with a takedown into side control.
Silva is looking for a sweep.
Silva is working hard here to advance position.
Guy trying to control the position but Silva is working away.
Guy has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Silva!

Guy with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Guy might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Silva kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guy tries to stand up but Silva grabs his leg and drags him down! Silva is now on top, in side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Guy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Silva regains full guard. Nicely done.

Guy is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Guy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Guy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Guy decides to stand back up.

so Silva counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Guy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Guy counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Guy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Guy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Guy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Guy has gone for a leg lock! Silva slips out almost immediately though and dives into Guy's guard.

Guy is trying to hold Silva in close to prevent damage but Silva has managed to pass into half guard.

Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Guy defends the submission attempt.
Guy preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Guy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.
Silva throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Guy works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Guy lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Silva!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Guy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Guy trying to control but Silva is having none of it.
Guy thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Silva wants to hold on but Guy pushes him away.

Guy stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Guy as he jumps to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Guy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Guy gets the takedown into side control.
Silva gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Thiago Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tom Guy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Guy wants to free his trapped foot but Silva is holding on for dear life with his legs.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tom Guy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Guy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
