PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Herb Hurt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Pitter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pitter comes into a darkened arena with his song building. My time is now kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Herb Hurt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Pitter!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pitter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hurt but Hurt pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hurt drops Pitter with a left right combo! Hurt follows him down to the ground into side control.


Pitter is rocked!
Pitter is looking for a sweep.
Pitter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Pitter looks to land a strike but Hurt avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Pitter trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Pitter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hurt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pitter thows a big elbow that misses.

Pitter is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Pitter working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hurt misses with a double jab.
Hurt throws a right and a left that both miss.
Horrible takedown by Pitter or perhaps it was just good defense by Hurt which made him look bad.
Pitter looks gassed!

Pitter bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pitter throwing strikes but Hurt manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Pitter is trying to get back to half guard.
Hurt advances nicely into full mount.
Pitter is in all sorts of trouble here.

Hurt tries to control but Pitter wriggling away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pitter wants to sweep but Hurt has passed to side control!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hurt prevents Pitter from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herb Hurt dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hurt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Hurt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pitter is looking for a sweep.
Pitter manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hurt's best efforts.
Pitter is trying to get back to full guard.
Hurt uses his free foot to push down on Pitter's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pitter.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Poor strikes thrown by Hurt there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Pitter is looking to get to half guard.

Pitter gets back to half guard.
Hurt prevents Pitter from improving his position.
Pitter gets full guard.

Hurt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pitter, up you get!
Hurt tries to clinch but Pitter is having none of it.

Pitter looks to move to half guard but instead Hurt has passed into mount! Damn!
Pitter is bucking up trying to escape but Hurt cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pitter keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hurt scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Pitter?
Pitter is looking to get to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hurt trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Pitter regains half guard.
Pitter regains full guard. Nicely done.
Pitter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herb Hurt dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Pitter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Hurt counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pitter manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Pitter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hurt gets full guard.
Pitter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Hurt is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pitter is in close to Hurt's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Pitter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hurt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pitter works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Pitter works his foot free and advances to mount.
Poor strikes thrown by Pitter there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Hurt wants to control but Pitter is having none of it.
Hurt is desperately trying to improve his position but Pitter has a good base and remains in mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee warns Hurt that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
BOOM! Pitter connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Pitter lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hurt hang on?
Hurt wants to try and get back to his feet.
Pitter postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hurt looks a forlorn figure.
Hurt avoids a series of strikes thrown by Pitter.
Hurt throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Pitter with shots to the head and body - Hurt looks very uncomfortable down there.
Pitter lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Herb Hurt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Pitter throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Hurt slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Pitter looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hurt with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hurt wants to get back to his feet.
Pitter is nestled in close to Hurt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pitter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hurt knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Herb Hurt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Pitter works his way into side control.
Hurt regains half guard, as Pitter was trying to land strikes.

Pitter trying to advance position but Hurt counters by regaining guard.
Pitter stands and throws Hurt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Pitter with the ground and pound but Hurt regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Pitter looks to land a strike but Hurt avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Charles Pitter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hurt wants to sweep here but Pitter controlling him for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Charles Pitter.
Well Hurt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
