PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Danny Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kobe Kage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charles comes to the cage accompanied by Have Heart - Armed With A Mind. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Danny Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kobe Kage!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kage with a poor takedown
enabling Charles to counter with a crisp jab.
Kage gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Charles keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kage.
Kage misses with an uppercut. Charles saw that one coming.
Kage throws a big shot that misses.
Charles appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Kage throws an off balance right hand
and Charles connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charles uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kage.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Charles tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kage was well out of range. Poor timing from Charles.
Kage tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Charles defends well and Kage ends up having to push Charles into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
A counter left hand to the body from Charles misses its target.

Charles just misses with a punch to the body.
Kage throws a jab when Charles was well out of range.
Charles swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Nice uppercut there from Charles.
Kage misses with an uppercut. Charles saw that one coming.
Kage uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Charles.
Kage with the counter takedown but Charles avoids it easily.

Kage fails with the takedown
and Charles counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Danny Charles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kobe Kage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kage listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Kage misses with a body shot
and Charles counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Kage throws a lazy uppercut
and Charles connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Charles slaps away a takedown attempt from Kage, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Charles appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Kage shoots in looking for a takedown. Charles tries to sprawl out of it but Kage keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Charles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kage shoots in and gets a takedown into Charles's guard.
Charles is pulling down on Kage's head. It's preventing any offense from Kage, at least for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kage accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kage tries to free his leg and advance position but Charles is retaining full guard.
Charles is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Highland Brawl Academy that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Kage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kage throwing strikes from guard but Charles blocks nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kage wants to control from the top but Charles keeps moving.
Charles throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Charles utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kage in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Charles working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kage.
Charles being controlled here, momentarily.
Kage missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Charles pulls Kage in close to his closed guard and prevents Kage from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kage throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Charles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Charles dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kage shoots in and bounces Charles off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Charles has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Kage is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Stalling in the clinch from Kage.

Charles successfully pulls guard.
Kage looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Charles wants to stand and escape but Kage is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kage throwing strikes from guard but Charles blocks nicely.

Kage thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kage trying to control but Charles is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kage preventing the sweep.
Kage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kage controls from within his opponent's guard.
Charles preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kage wants to control from the top but Charles keeps moving.
Kage looking to pass the guard.
Kage cracks Charles with a solid left hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kage wants to pass the guard but Charles is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kage passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Charles tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kage wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kage lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Charles down.
Kage creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Charles is trying to improve his position.

Kage wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Charles, who protects the arm well.
Charles tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ground and pound from Kage seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Charles is trying to improve his position.
Charles wants to control but Kage postures up.
Kage working the head with strikes.
Kage in side control lands a decent elbow.

Kage is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Charles is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Charles is pushing Kage's head away, looking to escape. Kage manages to hold on to the position though.

Kage has hold of Charles's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Charles seems comfortable defending it but Kage has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Charles is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Charles is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Kage couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kobe Kage!
