Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gary Rivers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hugh Rection! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rection looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Rection!
Rection moves in looking to clinch but Rivers pushes him off. Rection gets a takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rection wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rivers keeps working. Rivers regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Rection. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rection throws a big elbow that misses. Rivers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rection's guard. Rivers is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivers has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Rivers connects with a couple of short punches. Rivers content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rivers drops back looking for a leg! Rection is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rection manages to kick Rivers off! Rivers jumps back into Rection's guard. Rivers stands up over Rection, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivers working some strikes from top position. Rivers with a nice head shot there. Rivers passes into half guard under a barage of strikes. Still in half guard, Rivers seems content to control. Rivers working Rection over with strikes. Rivers drops an elbow to the side of Rection's head. Rivers controlling the action here. Rivers is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Rivers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Rivers maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Rection could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Rivers has cracked it and Rection is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Rivers!
