Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ares Espiro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Pal Ohmsford! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Espiro wants to clinch up but Ohmsford keeps it at a distance. Ohmsford lands a left and a right that send Espiro crashing to the mat, dazed. Ohmsford thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
It looks like Ares Espiro has been cut. Espiro fails in his attempt to clinch. Ohmsford tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Espiro swivels and escapes. Ohmsford bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Espiro tries to keep at a distance but Ohmsford has taken the fight into the clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Espiro wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ohmsford has him pressed against the cage. Ohmsford blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Espiro lands with a right to the head. Espiro jumps guard but Ohmsford turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Espiro drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ohmsford gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Espiro jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ohmsford walks away with a smile on his face. Espiro gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ares Espiro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. A combination from Ohmsford does no damage. Ohmsford's coach down at ~T~ Troid - Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Ohmsford's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Ohmsford moves out of range of the strikes. Ohmsford instigates a clinch. Ohmsford breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Ohmsford slips a jab from Espiro. Ares Espiro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. The fight stays on the outside here - Espiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Espiro lands an overhand right. Espiro dodges the punch combination from Ohmsford.
Ohmsford has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Ohmsford shoots in and drives through. Espiro sprawls well. Espiro was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Espiro looks to score with a jab to the body but Ohmsford is just out of range. Espiro has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Holding Cell in the buildup to the fight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Espiro throws a good cross that connects.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Espiro throws a big shot that misses. Ohmsford swats away the attempt to clinch by Espiro. Ohmsford shoots in and gets a takedown into Espiro's guard. Ohmsford throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Espiro is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ohmsford is aware though and is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Espiro is looking for a triangle but Ohmsford pushes his legs off easily.
Espiro controls Ohmsford momentarily but Ohmsford frees himself. Ohmsford sitting in guard here, content to control. Espiro throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ohmsford escapes and throws Espiro's legs to the side, diving into side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Espiro is trying to control Ohmsford's posture but Ohmsford avoids it. Ohmsford stands up and beckons Espiro to his feet. Espiro jabs Ohmsford right on the nose. Ohmsford blinks but takes it well. A combination from Ohmsford does no damage. Ohmsford has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Espiro finds it's way round the side to connect with Ohmsford's head. Pal Ohmsford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ohmsford slips a jab and a cross from Espiro.
Ohmsford gets a clinch. Ohmsford lands a left hand.
Espiro fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Espiro misses with the head strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Espiro looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Ohmsford prevents a body shot from Espiro. Ohmsford manages to break the clinch.
Espiro tries to clinch up but Ohmsford circles away and keeps his distance. Espiro walks into a jab. Ohmsford takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ohmsford lands with a big left! Espiro is wobbled badly! Ohmsford comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Espiro to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Pal Ohmsford!
