Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nikki Dub! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Avery! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Avery walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Dub lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. A punch combination from Avery misses. Dub misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Avery scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. A jab from Avery misses. Dub throws a nice looking combination but Avery bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Dub avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Dub looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Dub throws a hook to the side of Avery's head but Avery sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Dub thuds a left hand into Avery's body. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Dub.
Avery looking to score a takedown here. Dub is defending well but Avery drives through and ends up in Dub's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dub pulls Avery in to control the position. Dub has momentary wrist control but Avery slips an elbow through the middle. Avery is stalling in the full guard. Dub controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avery is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dub is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dub has escaped and now he's on top! Avery throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Avery pulls Dub in close to prevent any damage. Dub has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Avery is on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Avery is pushing down on Dub's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dub is fighting to maintain full guard but Avery has managed to sneak the leg through. Dub looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Dub avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Avery. Ground and pound from Avery. Avery is taking a breather. Dub says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Dub utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Avery postures up in Dub's guard and throws a big left but Dub blocks it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
William Avery dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Avery decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Dub is looking to control Avery's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dub avoid being mounted? Dub knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Avery on the ground. Avery throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Avery putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Avery misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Avery moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Dub has worked his arm free - good work by Dub!
Dub prevents Avery from improving position. Avery is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dub knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dub parries the strikes from Avery easily there. Avery is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Dub to escape.
Avery is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Dub looks calm but he's in trouble here. Avery gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Dub is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Avery lets go of the hold and Dub can pop his arm back in it's socket.
