Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrey Lapis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Povetkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lapis comes to the cage accompanied by Once Solemn . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Lapis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Alexander Povetkin!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Lapis or perhaps it was just good defense by Povetkin, which made it look bad.
Lapis lands with a good body shot.
Povetkin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lapis.

Lapis moves into the clinch.

Povetkin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Lapis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Lapis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Lapis is trying to get an arm triangle but Povetkin is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lapis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Povetkin, who protects the arm well.

Lapis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lapis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We've been hearing good reports from Lapis's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Andrey Lapis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A punch lands to the side of Lapis 's head but he takes it in his stride.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lapis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Povetkin moves away.

Povetkin fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lapis.
Lapis shoots in looking for a takedown. Povetkin tries to sprawl out of it but Lapis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Povetkin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Oh Lapis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Povetkin lands a big uppercut and Lapis crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Lapis looks OK. Povetkin waves Lapis back to his feet!
Povetkin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lapis.
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Povetkin has cracked Lapis with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Povetkin lands another huge swinging hook and Lapis tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Lapis, before Povetkin can land any more shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Alexander Povetkin!
