PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Columbus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Columbus comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Warriors of the World kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, David Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Scott Columbus!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Columbus throws a leg kick which misses Diaz's front leg but catches the back leg as Diaz tries to avoid it.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Columbus sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Columbus scores with a leg kick.
Diaz takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Columbus fakes the leg kick and cracks Diaz in the body.
Diaz takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


It looks like David Diaz has been cut.
Diaz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Diaz is breathing heavily.

Columbus gets caught flat footed, as Diaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Columbus trying to keep a closed guard but Diaz is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Columbus is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Columbus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Diaz gets to his feet - Columbus follows without any prompting.
A looping hook to the body misses from Columbus. Diaz does a little dance to reset his feet.
Columbus defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Columbus connects with an inside leg kick.
Columbus lands an overhand right.
Diaz moves away from the strike by Columbus.
Diaz doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Columbus cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Diaz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Diaz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Columbus defends it well.
Diaz is thwarting Columbus's attempts to control the position.
Columbus is looking to improve his position.
Columbus is trying to maintain the position but Diaz is very close to passing his half guard.
Ground and pound from Diaz.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Columbus is pressing down on Diaz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Columbus keeps moving.

Columbus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Columbus can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Diaz controls the pace.
Diaz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Columbus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Columbus's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Columbus's back!

Diaz thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Diaz is trying to stick to Columbus's back but Columbus is turning into Diaz. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Diaz's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Columbus.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Columbus delivers a nice body kick.
Columbus with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Diaz closes the distance and clinches up with Columbus, looking for a takedown. Diaz pushes Columbus against the cage but Columbus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Columbus pushes Diaz away with a front kick.
Scott Columbus seems to be getting the better of the standup.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Diaz.
Columbus connects with an inside leg kick.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Columbus shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Columbus bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Columbus chopping away at his opponent's legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Good leg kick by Columbus there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Columbus lunges at Diaz with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Diaz's hand.
Columbus delivers a nice body kick.
Diaz takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Columbus lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Diaz on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Columbus. Columbus obviously looking to wear him down.
Diaz will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Columbus fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Columbus circles away from the clinch attempt.
Columbus turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Columbus lands a big uppercut and Diaz crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Diaz looks OK. Columbus waves Diaz back to his feet!

David Diaz's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Columbus throws a nice outside leg kick.
Diaz chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Columbus can pounce on him.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Columbus - that will leave a mark!

Columbus lands with a thumping leg kick.
Diaz tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Columbus pushes Diaz away with a front kick.
Diaz walks into a jab.
Oh Diaz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!


Jeez, David Diaz's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Diaz tries to get into range but Columbus steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Diaz! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Columbus scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Scott Columbus!
