Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
33 - 50 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Jin Kim! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Maynard! The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maynard fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kim has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Kim shoots in and drives through. Maynard sprawls well. A head kick misses from Maynard. Kim fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Maynard scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kim doesn't seem bothered though. Kim takes a kick to the side of the head.
It looks like Jin Kim has been cut. Kim tries to clinch up. Kim fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maynard misses with a kick to the body.
Kim tries to counter by clinching up but Maynard breaks away and moves out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kim shoots for a double leg takedown but Maynard sprawls well. He's pushed Kim's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Maynard dips to his left and cracks Kim with an uppercut! Maynard scores with a nice body kick.
Maynard clinches. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kim is working for takedown but Maynard is calmly controlling the position for now.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. The crowd are getting on Maynard's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch. Kim manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kim lands a couple of decent looking shots. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maynard can do anything to dispel that myth. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kim wants to pass the guard but Maynard is keeping the position.

Kim postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Maynard wants to stand up but Kim is controlling him. Kim slips nicely into half guard. Kim thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maynard's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Maynard tries to roll over but Kim keeps him under control. Kim is looking for a kimura here.
Kim is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Maynard sees it coming and defends easily. Maynard trying to hold on to Kim's head to control him but Kim postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Maynard keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kim shoots and misses and Maynard counters with a nice body shot. Maynard misses with a leg kick and Kim counters with a single leg into guard. Maynard didn't expect that. Maynard preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Kim postures up in Maynard's guard and throws a big left but Maynard blocks it. Kim throwing strikes but missing. Kim drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maynard looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maynard looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maynard!

That's one minute gone in the round. Maynard throws a quick inside leg kick. Maynard fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kim manages to avoid it. As Maynard tries to get set, Kim tries to push him back and clinch up but Maynard manages to avoid the attempt. Maynard with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Maynard displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kim. As Kim backs off Maynard throws a huge counter combo but Kim manages to avoid it all. Maynard digs a good body shot into Kim's ribs. Maynard pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kim is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Maynard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maynard throws a half hearted mid kick. Kim tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Maynard manages to circle out of the way. Kim changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maynard tries to avoid it but Kim manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maynard to the ground. Maynard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Maynard misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Peter Maynard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kim shoots in for a takedown but Maynard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Maynard ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kim moves away. An inside leg kick lands from Maynard. Maynard feints and then cracks Kim's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kim down. Maynard looks to land a combination but Kim avoids it well. Maynard connects with a leg kick. Kim looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Maynard stuffs the takedown attempt from Kim. Kim gets slowly back to his feet.

Kim shoots in and drives through. Maynard sprawls well. Maynard throws a counter combo. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Maynard fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kim. Kim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maynard's waist but Maynard gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kim off to one side. Maynard was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. Maynard pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Maynard throws a lazy body kick and Kim counters with a takedown into side control. Maynard explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fight stays on the outside here - Kim looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Maynard is looking to slow Kim down with leg kicks. Maynard throws a sloppy head kick and Kim moves out of range easily. Maynard fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kim. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Maynard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Jin Kim's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Maynard counters with a left and a right that stings Kim. Jab, jab by Maynard - just one landing. That kick from Maynard tenderised Kim's leg. Kim is trying to keep his angry face on. Kim takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Maynard lands with a slapping head kick. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Maynard lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Maynard! Kim is out on his feet! Maynard rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Kim is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Kim is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
