Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arto Blomsten! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cornelius Carr! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carr scores with a head kick. Blomsten tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
It looks like Arto Blomsten has been cut. Blomsten throws a big shot that misses. Blomsten thows a leg kick but Carr checks it and Carr connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Blomsten connects with a crisp jab. Blomsten fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Jab from Blomsten. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carr looks to land a right hand but Blomsten moved out of range. Blomsten plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Blomsten has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Carr. Blomsten seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carr lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Carr has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Blomsten tries a head kick but it misses.
Blomsten misses with a takedown and Carr cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Carr slips a jab from Blomsten. Blomsten walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Carr checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Carr checks a low kick from Blomsten. The fighters circling - Blomsten throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Blomsten tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Blomsten throws a jab but it's blocked by Carr. Carr throws out a counter right but Blomsten avoids it with no problem.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Blomsten is defended easily by Carr. Carr throws out a counter right but Blomsten avoids it with no problem. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arto Blomsten. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carr throws a shot from downtown. Blomsten moves away and avoids it. Carr avoids the body shot from Blomsten.
Blomsten lands with a kick to the temple. Carr shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Carr is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Blomsten. Blomsten waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Carr. Carr now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carr misses with a hook. Blomsten throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Blomsten lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Carr avoids the head kick by Blomsten.
Carr appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. Blomsten just misses with a punch to the body.
Blomsten swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Carr throws a fast counter high kick but Blomsten manages to duck under it in time. Blomsten loads up on a big right hand but Carr slips the punch. Blomsten is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carr. It seemed like Carr was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Blomsten throws a low kick, looking for Carr's leg but Carr calmly moves out of range. Carr wants to counter with a clinch but Blomsten pushes him away. Carr fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carr lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Blomsten misses with a wild body shot. Carr lands with a cross. Carr listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Carr throws an off balance right hand
and Blomsten counters with a lovely straight right hand! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Carr tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Blomsten was well out of range. Poor timing from Carr. Blomsten wants to land a leg kick but Carr is out of range. Blomsten fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Carr manages to avoid it. Carr might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Blomsten will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Carr scores with a nice head shot. Blomsten has Carr up against the cage in a clinch.
Blomsten tightens his grip and picks Carr up, before dumping him to the ground. Carr manages to land in guard. Carr looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Blomsten postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carr is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Carr keeping full guard, as Blomsten tries to pass. Blomsten has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Blomsten throws a body shot but no joy. That kick from Blomsten tenderised Carr's leg. Carr is trying to keep his angry face on. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Blomsten is defended easily by Carr.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Blomsten motions for Carr to come forward. Blomsten throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Carr looks like he wants to counter punch here. Carr on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Arto Blomsten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice defenses there by Blomsten. Blomsten attempts a counter takedown but Carr avoids it well and moves away. Blomsten works Carr's body with a nice hook. Blomsten fails with the takedown and Carr counters with a nice uppercut. Carr takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Blomsten connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Blomsten lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Blomsten uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Carr. Blomsten checks a low kick from Carr. Blomsten tries to counter with a takedown but Carr is quick to defend against it. Blomsten shoots in for a takedown but Carr shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arto Blomsten. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carr blocks a jab. Carr wants to counter with a clinch but Blomsten pushes him away. Carr moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Blomsten keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Carr. The fighters circle momentarily. Blomsten darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Blomsten decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Carr makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

He's persisting with it as Carr sprawls well. Carr wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Blomsten gets slowly back to his feet. Carr let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Blomsten tries to land a front kick but Carr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. It seemed like Carr was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. A big left from Carr misses. Carr swings widly with a right hand

Blomsten throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Carr thuds a left hand into Blomsten's body. Blomsten tries to land a front kick but Carr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Good work by Blomsten as he checks the leg kick. Blomsten misses with an uppercut. Arto Blomsten is winning the standup battle so far. Blomsten avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Blomsten attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Blomsten throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Carr only half commits to the counter leg kick. Carr misses with a straight right. Blomsten shoots and misses and Carr cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arto Blomsten. That's going to take a lot out of him. Blomsten misses with a hook. Carr ducked under it nicely. Blomsten is looking to slow Carr down with leg kicks. Blomsten scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Blomsten misses with an attempted mid kick.

Carr is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arto Blomsten. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carr can't find room to land a body shot as Blomsten controls the action.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over. Carr gets underhooks to prevent Blomsten's takedown attempt.

Carr lands a nice shot to the body. A short left from Carr. Carr tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Carr as Blomsten tries to tie him up. Carr lands an uppercut. Blomsten ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Blomsten no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Carr takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Blomsten is trying to maintain the position but Carr is very close to passing his half guard. Carr content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Blomsten gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Blomsten wants to control but Carr is keeping him busy. You can see the frustration on Carr's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Blomsten trying to control the position but Carr is working away. Carr is trying to control Blomsten's posture but Blomsten avoids it.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Blomsten pivots, looking for a leg kick but Carr is out of range and Blomsten settles back down.

Cornelius Carr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Carr is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Blomsten. Blomsten looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Blomsten is looking to slow Carr down with leg kicks. Blomsten pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Carr wants to counter the offense by Blomsten and move into the clinch position. Blomsten throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Carr feints a counter leg kick. Carr jabbing away but nothing is landing.

He's pushed Blomsten's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Carr looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Carr wants to slow Blomsten down by chopping away at his legs. Blomsten misses the body punch enabling Carr to counter with a crisp jab.
