Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 19 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexei Erschov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Phil Harris! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harris has Erschov up against the ropes in a clinch.
Harris decides to pull guard. Erschov is looking to work some ground and pound but Harris has wrist control. Erschov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Harris working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Erschov. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Erschov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Harris preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Erschov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Harris has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Erschov has managed to get both his arms back between Harris's legs - danger averted. Harris working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Erschov. Erschov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Erschov throws a big right hand that misses. Erschov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Harris is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Erschov is aware though and is defending well. Erschov lands a couple of elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harris had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Erschov defends it easily. Harris preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Erschov trying to control but Harris is working from the bottom. Erschov throws a sloppy strike and Harris has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Erschov is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Harris!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Phil Harris! After winning the bout, Phil Harris thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
