The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masterton tries to clinch up but Ward circles away and keeps his distance.
Masterton throws a combination that misses
and Ward counters with a three punch combo that has Masterton backing up. Masterton nods at Ward to acknowledge the strikes.
Ward tries to sprawl but Masterton drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Masterton content to control rather than advance.
Ward could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ward wants to improve his position but Masterton is controlling well.
Masterton keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ward is looking for a sweep. Masterton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ward is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Masterton's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Masterton's back!
Masterton is trying to get back to his feet but Ward has full control of the position and if anything, Masterton has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Masterton wants to control his opponent's hands but Ward gets his hands free.
Ward lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Masterton is covering up but some of the strikes from Ward are getting through and doing damage.

You can see the frustration on Masterton's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Masterton wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ward gets his hands free as Masterton looks to control.

Masterton might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ward haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Masterton is trying to get to his feet but he's left his neck exposed and Ward manages to sink in a rear naked choke! Great counter grappling by Ward!
